Armorer

We went to visit a local armorer today the Austin Tinkering School. This was probably our favorite artisan field trip yet.

Zack was a great presenter. He was very prepared; showed us lots of different pieces that he's made and wears when he fights, gave us some metallorgy lessons, and even lots of great historical information.

The boys were fascinated!

Dunagan tried everything on he could.

He even fired up his homemade forge (which was great: look what you can make yourself!) And showed us the differences in steel that is quenched immediately (it breaks) and in steel that is allowed to cool gradually (becomes flexible).

  1. Coolest field trip ever! I don't even think we'd have an armorer in town! Love your blog, by the way. We're about to redirect our home schooling to use Enki and I am excited to find another blogger using the method. I look forward to keeping up with your family adventures!
